ENERGY EFFICIENCY INITIATIVES IN HALIFAX
VendingMiser and Vending Machines…
Are you aware just how progressive Halifax is in making real changes to the environment and energy efficiency? Over the last 5 years, HRM has invested almost S7 million in energy efficiency projects and initiatives. Some of these initiatives seem so small in comparison to what REALLY needs to be accomplished in the world of energy efficiency. For example, did you know that one vending machine consumes more than $500 worth of electricity each year? It produces about four tonnes of CO2 emissions. HRM has installed 30 “VendingMisers” in recreational centres, which is a small piece of equipment that uses infrared sensors to power down the machine is no movement is detected for 15 minutes. It allows the machine to use energy ONLY when required by the user.
This is just another reason to be proud of where we have chosen to make our homes. Thank you Halifax!
