If you’re building a new home you should pay close attention to a program offered by Efficiency Nova Scotia. The Performance Plus program offers rebates for insulation, drain water heat recovery units, solar water heating systems, heat pumps, and energy efficient lighting. Homes that are in the program will receive an EnerGuide rating. The higher the rating, the more your rebate ($3,000 to $7000). You can also receive a rebate for making your home “solar ready”, and more if you actually install the solar equipment.
How it works:
- Call a program supplier with your plans to build.
- Once you are registered, an EnerGuide evaluation will be performed.
- The EnerGuide analysis will estimate the future energy savings of the home, and recommend other ways to improve energy efficiency.
- Make decisions with your builder regarding the recommended energy upgrades.
- A final EnerGuide test is performed, testing the “air tightness” of the home. The home will be given a final rating.
Don’t forget!!! You and your builder MUST register for the program BEFORE building begins!!
