North End Halifax Real Estate
Bordered by the Bedford Basin, and the Halifax Harbour on its east side, the North End of Halifax offers a unique and continuously developing neighbourhood. Much of the area has all been rebuilt since the Halifax Explosion devastated the area in 1917. The tragic accident effectively levelled the existing structures due to the sheer force of the explosion or the resulting fires that it created.
Today the peninsular Halifax area has been transformed through a slow transition into a great example of a multicultural community. The area provides many different things to different people. For some, it is the close proximity to the area formally known as Africville. For others it is an affordable haven for university students, suburban setting for families, or a viable option for professionals who wish to live near their workplace. The North End has numerous pockets of individuality hidden within.
The area’s commercial presence is anchored around the Hydrostone Market shops and setting. Originally constructed as row houses using Hydrostone (to prevent fires) after the Halifax Explosion the buildings have been reconstructed over the last two decades to provide a tranquil commercial space in the middle of Halifax’s busy peninsula. The market offers fine dining, crafts and galleries, bakery, and much more to the area’s residents.
